Contrasting Youth

Make your sandcastles out of mud and clay
Whistle through a blade of grass
It’s an innocent world
A child’s reward
Their laughter echoes are vast

Now ride the waves of the merry-go-round
You’re breathless
You sigh and you laugh
Running through the playgrounds of your tender years
Has it been too long to look back

The innocence of a child disappears as he is reared
The brilliant greens turn coal black
A joker is dealt with every fool hand
Unveil the man in the mask

In your world of imagination
The sweat from your brow
The saturation
Tommy plays with his tommy-gun
He means no harm
He is just having fun

The pavements heat
A dead man in the street
A neighborhood bustles
The drug addicts hustle

Drive by shootings
Rioting and looting
Hookers and pimps
Pay up you wimp

Rabid racist filled with hatred
Cops killed the martyr
Education lotto
No drive to get started

In the beginning
Just like in the end
Bend over backwards
But how far can one bend
