Desert Highway

The snake he crawls across the desert highway
And the sun makes you curse the sky
The air is dry as the day begins
And you ask the same question
Why?

Leather drapes across the desert madness
The needle scrapes the skin
She’s dry
Waves of heat distort the scenic span
And the salty sweat
It burns my eyes

Skeletal remains scatter across the plain
While the wind blows an eerie unease
Sandy hillsides shift to form anew
My blood flows to fill release

Evening settles over the pink horizon
Creatures evening steal beneath
Travels travail has reached its peak
Close weary lids
Too heavy the weight to speak

I’ve but a few moments more
In this bed of bitter sweet
To rest this evening
On this vista plain
To wrangle
And search or seek
